Kythnos

I feel like I just lived the movie Mamma Mia, okay so maybe my life was not narrated by song and dance, but it could have been!  The island of Kythnos is lived up to every expectation of typical Greece, the white buildings with blue roofs and long narrow sidewalks winding through the village.  It was gorgeous!  I could not believe it!  It was literally awe dropping!  The rich blue is beautiful, and they aren't joking when they say it mimics the sea, because that is just as rich in color!  The water was so clear, I could actually see my feet when swimming in the Aegean Sea!

Just like Athens, Kythnos was also alive with history!  We were lucky enough to go to a excavation site of an old temple at the top of the hill.  It was quite the adventure getting there, out taxi driver/ tour guide lead us up the winding hill side where rock walls marked land boundaries.  But instead of going around them it was much easier for him to just knock t
hem down, I mean no big deal, those walls weren't like thousands of years old or anything....

But I do have to say that my favorite part of Kythnos, was our little journey
to the other side of the island where we saw the most beautiful church!  It was gorgeous!  It was right on the ledge looking over the sea and you could see forever.  And we were lucky enough t
o go to the church while there was a Greek wedding going on, so we got the privilege to get a little insight to what a traditional Greek wedding is like.  It was pretty cool!

We also got to go to another smaller church on the island, but it held much importance to the people of the village.  Inside there were beautiful paintings and dedications to Jesus.  And there were also icons from Peter and Paul, two of Jesus apostles.  It was incredible!  I cannot explain the feelings and emotions that over took me as I walked into the church.  I felt so at piece and so content among all the beautiful icons.

Kythnos was definitely a great way to start of this trip, it set the bar high, but
I feel like these next three months will totally live up to par!
